Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers Players Share Epic Reaction to Wild Game 4 Battle
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The first-round duel between the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers is already proving to be one of the most exciting series in this year’s playoffs. Both teams know each other’s strengths and weaknesses so well that they’ve provided plenty of memorable moments in the last five years.

Game 4 shows even to the most casual NBA fan that the series may be headed to a full seven games. Players from both sides left everything on the floor, and the Clippers managed to edge their opponents. The 116-111 loss had Mavs fans asking questions about specific game-time decisions, but it cannot be denied that both teams are providing fans with some of the best basketball out there.

The press asked players of both teams how the series is progressing so far, and their replies have been interesting.

Luka Doncic feels he could have done more to help Dallas Mavericks, Kyrie Irving

It’s a disappointing loss for the Mavericks as they could have taken control of the series here. Their shots may not have gone in, but it was their complete responsibility to stifle the Clippers’ offense and prevent a comeback from happening.

Luka Doncic was especially harsh on himself. According to Basketball Forever’s Nick Kelland, he believes he could have done more to help Kai close down on the Clips and secure a commanding 3-1 lead:

“I gotta help him more, I feel like I’m letting him down so I gotta be there,” Doncic said. “I gotta help him more, he’s giving everything he has. He’s been amazing for us the whole series.”

However, it’s hard to blame Doncic for his on-court efforts. He finished the night with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists on 41.7% shooting. While he could definitely have shot the ball better, the onus is also on his teammates to help their star players get open.

Irving was understanding towards his superstar teammate. Per Daily Mail’s Jake Nisse:

“He wants to play well and knowing he wants to make a bigger impact, even though he’s almost averaging triple-double for the series, but we’re always critical of him and I think he’s always critical of himself.”

Uncle Drew finished the game with 40 points, seven rebounds, and five assists on 56% shooting. He was practically unstoppable, with one layup taking the American Airlines Center crowd’s breath away.

James Harden, Los Angeles Clippers are happy with the comeback win

On the other hand, Harden is more than happy that his contributions helped the Los Angeles Clippers even the series against the Mavericks.

With Kawhi Leonard ruled out for Game 4, Harden had to take over The Klaw’s mantle and carry the offensive load. He stepped up well, finishing 33 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. He even made defensive contributions with his a steal and a block.

He was very happy with his work, and Kelland wrote about his thoughts:

“I’m blessed to be able to change it up and be a facilitator or a scorer,” Harden said. “My mindset coming to this team was doing whatever it takes to win and get to the end goal. Whether that’s scoring or facilitating, I think it goes possession by possession and game by game.”

With Game 5 headed back to LA, the Clippers will be looking to close out the series in six. With the Mavs trying to do the same, NBA fans will be in for an exciting series.
